SHINGLE BLOW OFF REPAIRS IN LEHIGH VALLEY PENNSYLVANIA
Asphalt Shingle Blow Off Repairs
Shingle Blow Off is a term used to describe asphalt shingles tearing free of the roof decking due to high volatility winds. This will happen from time to time regardless of what brand and year warranty the asphalt shingles are.

Wind Damage/Blow Off of Asphalt Architectural Shingle Roof
How ever, in our experience with Roof Repairs we have noticed this occurs more often when 3-Tab asphalt shingles are used or when Staples have been used to fasten the shingles to the roof decking.
Causes of Shingle Blow Off
Incorrect nail placement is the #1 cause for shingle blow-offs.
It is crucial to follow the nailing patters suggested by the Shingle Manufacturer.
Each manufacturer prints the suggested nailing pattern on the back of the shingle wrappers. These nailing patterns are tested and proven by the shingle manufacturer to be the most effective nail placements.

Typical Nail Placement for Asphalt Shingles
Failure to follow these nailing patterns makes it much easer for the nails to tear through the shingle, greatly increasing the likelihood of Shingle Slipping and/or Shingle Blow Off. Incorrect nailing patters may also void many
Manufacture Warranty.
The area most vulnerable to shingle blow off due to incorrect nailing are the side edges of the roof. These areas need special attention during installation because the shingles are installed hanging slightly over the edge to to prevent water from running off the roof edge and behind the siding. If
these areas are not correctly nailed, strong winds can force the shingle up at this slight overhang and tear the shingle free of the fasteners.

Shingle Blow Off at Roof Edge
This is not to suggest that every shingle blow off is the cause of bad installation practices. Sometimes the wind reaches speeds the shingles simply can not endure.
Repairing Shingle Blow Offs
It is always a good idea to visually inspect your roof from the ground after every storm or heavy winds. If you spot missing or damages shingles, don't wait for a wet spot to appear on your ceiling to get the roof repaired. It may take the water weeks or even months before it makes an appearance
inside the home, by that time much of the interior structure beneath the roof decking (rafters, insulation, etc) will have been damp long enough to promote Wood Rot and Mold. Waiting to make repairs will only increase the
likelihood of more damages to your home and more repair costs.
Our Approach to Shingle Blow Off Repair
When we are hired to make a Shingle Blow Off Repair the first thing we will do is come to your home to assess the extent of the damages. During this time we will also take note of the color and type of the original Asphalt Shingle. This ensures the best possible match (if not exact match) of the
existing shingles.
Damaged shingles in the effected will be removed with special care not to damage the adjoining shingles around the effected area. Once the damages shingles have been removed, the roof decking will be cleared of any remaining roofing nails, we will also replace the felt paper in the area if it has
been damaged. This provides us with the smooth flat surface needed to properly install the new replacement shingles.
Once all the missing and/or damages shingles have been replaced we will seal the underside of all the shingles in the effected area with Geocel sealant. This effectively bonds the shingles together to preventing winds from lifting the shingles, reducing the chances of a shingle blow off occurring
again in the future.
After this work is completed, we will carefully clean, bag and dispose of all work related debris. All debris will be disposed of properly off site. We never use your trash cans to dispose of our work debris.
